Neural Blockade in Cervical Pain Syndromes1

چکیده
Address Correspondence: Laxmaiah Manchikanti, M.D., Pain Management Center of Paducah, 2831 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, KY 42003 Chronic neck pain, headache, and arm pain are some of the most common patient complaints confronting today’s health care provider. Chronic neck pain is reported to be a frequency symptom in 34% of the general population with 14% of the general population reporting neck pain that lasted for more than 6 months. The magnitude of the problem is demonstrated by increase of cervical spine surgery by 45% and cervical fusion by 70% over a ten year period from 1979 through 1988. Therapeutic effectiveness of a large variety of interventions in managing chronic neck pain is inconclusive. Pain and dysfunction have been attributed to a number of structure in the neck which have a potential for producing a pain pattern in the neck, head, and upper extremity which include intervertebral disc, nerve roots, facet joints, and ligamentous and muscular structures.

BACKGROUND Medical treatment of cranio-cervical pain can be suboptimal in patients with internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection. We report the use of cervical sympathetic block for treatment of pain in two patients with ICA dissection. CASE REPORTS A 58-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman presented with severe cranio-cervical pain associated with left and right ICA dissection confirmed by m...

The effects from cervical facet joint injections in those patients who have been complaining cervical zygapophyseal joint pain were compared. The patients were diagnosed originally as myofascial pain syndrome (MPS), cervical herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP), and whiplash-associated disorders (WAD). Patients with the zygapophyseal joints pain of C5-6 and C6-7 were classified by their pain origin...

Most cases present with immediate symptoms. However, in rare cases, the foreign body can migrate within the t...
متن کاملSupraclavicular approach to brachial plexus block using fluoroscopic anatomic landmarks and nerve stimulation.
Irritation of neural structures, specifically the brachial plexus outside of the cervical spine is capable of producing pain in the upper extremity. These pain patterns may be similar to pain originating from the cervical spine, presenting a diagnostic challenge. Brachial plexus block is performed at multiple levels, including interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, and axillary. Inters...
